In a humanitarian gesture, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has decided to contribute medical equipment worth 10 crore to the state health department in order to help the authorities battle the Covid-19 crisis. The decision has come at a time when the Covid-19 cases are showing an upward trend in Kerala. And the announcement was made by party state general secretary KPA Majeed. 

“The authorities are in need of help and we were approached by Malappuram district administration seeking support. The party has decided to ensure everyone is getting proper care,” Majeed told The Site.

Kerala, on Saturday, 11,755 fresh cases reaching the total number of active cases to 95,918. Last week, Malappuram district collector K Gopalakrishnan visited party Malappuram district committee president Syed Sadik Ali Shihab Thangal seeking support from the party in the battle against Covid-19.

As per the plan, the party will contribute the equipment to the district administration and it will be installed in the hospitals across Malappuram. 

“We have been given a list of essential equipment and steps are on to meet the requirements,” said M Ummer MLA, who is in charge of the initiative. 

The equipment includes ICU ventilator, ICU cot, dialysis machine, infusion pump, multiparametre monitor, defibrillator with cardiac monitor, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen nasal cannula, non rebreather mask, D type oxygen cylinders and centralised medical gas. The party has asked local self governing bodies including grama panchayats, people’s representatives and party institutions including cooperative banks to be part of the drive. 

Exuding his confidence in meeting the requirements within two weeks, Ummer said the party leadership has spoken to MLAs and letters have been sent to various institutions seeking support. “We are also receiving warm response from the benefactors who have made certain offers to purchase listed equipment for the initiative,” he said.
