Amidst the surge in coronavirus cases, Darul Uloom Masjid, the second biggest mosque in Vadodara, has extended its services by converting it to a 50-bed covid facility.
"Due to shortage of oxygen and hospital beds, we decided to convert the mosque into COVID facility. And what is better than the month of Ramadan to do it," trustee of the mosque, said to the media. The mosque which was attacked during the riots in 2002 is now open for all regardless of religion.
Recently, a long queue of over 40 plus ambulances, waiting for admission of COVID-19 patients was seen outside the civil hospitals. The media has reported that patients are queuing up in ambulances as beds are not available in any hospitals.
Witnessing the dire situation, Godhra Muslim Samaj, maulvis and a group of Muslim doctors got together and decided to offer the hall on the ground floor as Covid-19 treatment centre. Permission was sought from the district collector and chief district health officer for arranging the facility.
The mosque has refrigerated milk, biscuit and dry fruits for the patients apart from other facilities. Last year too mosques in Vadodara has made rooms for covid patients.
