AMU aces in 'US News Best Global Universities Ranking' for research
The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) got this year's seventh annual 'US News Best Global Universities Rankings a premium position in the Indian and global higher education landscape.
It was recognised as ‘research-rich university’ with the first position among Indian universities/institutions in ‘Biology and Bio-Chemistry’.
It is also the only Indian centre of learning ranked in ‘Mathematics’, besides securing the fifth rank in ‘Physics’ and ninth in ‘Chemistry’.
It is to be noted that this ranking has come at the university's centenary year.
"AMU is in the top-notch hub of knowledge and discovery in India. Research scholars and students attending the university are being trained to become the best next-generation scientists, engineers, teachers, and leaders,” said AMU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.
He congratulated faculty members and students for the achievement for their unrelenting efforts to take the university at the zenith.
“In the ‘Biology and Biochemistry’ subject category, AMU has secured a subject score of 34.1 to lead the chart of India universities/institutions above the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and IIT Delhi on the second and third positions respectively. In ‘Mathematics’, AMU stands as the only Indian institution/university to feature in the rankings; AMU is ranked 5th among Indian universities and 11th in all Indian institutions in ‘Physics’ and it is placed 9th in Indian universities and 21st in among Indian institutions in ‘Chemistry’,” said Prof M Salim Beg (Chairman, Committee for Ranking of the University).
AMU has been ranked based on carefully calibrated performance indicators in academic research by the ‘US News Best Global Universities Rankings’ from among 250 global universities/ institutions in Mathematics, 500 in Biology and Biochemistry; 750 in Physics and 750 in Chemistry.
